Where are the planets in the zodiac today?

Open ClockAstronomical and select Now to use your device's current time. The wheel shows the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in the tropical zodiac. Open the Planet Degree Table for each body's sign, degree within that sign, 0–360° longitude, and retrograde marker. Pause the clock if you want the displayed moment to stop changing.

What are Saturn's and Pluto's zodiac degrees today?

Because the value changes with time, ClockAstronomical does not hard-code a daily answer. Select Now, open the Planet Degree Table, and read the Saturn or Pluto row. Degree is the body's position within its current 30° sign; Longitude is its full tropical position from 0° to less than 360°. The two displayed decimal places are formatting, not a promise of 0.01° accuracy.

Which planets are retrograde right now?

Select Now and open the Planet Degree Table. An R identifies a body that ClockAstronomical currently classifies as retrograde; a dash means direct. Mercury through Pluto are evaluated from the change in geocentric tropical longitude across a one-day numerical window. The Sun and Moon are always shown as direct. This is a status at the displayed instant, not an exact station-time calculation.

Where were the planets in the past?

Enter a past date and time in ClockAstronomical's UTC date field. The chart pauses at that instant and shows the calculated tropical geocentric positions on the wheel and in the degree table. Available dates run from AD 1000 through AD 3000 using the proleptic Gregorian calendar. A historical date recorded under another calendar may need conversion first. Results outside 1900–2100 are labelled Extended / approximate.

Where will the planets be in the future?

Enter a future UTC date and time to calculate that instant, or play the clock forward to watch positions change. ClockAstronomical accepts dates through 31 December AD 3000. Dates after 2100 remain available but are explicitly marked Extended / approximate. The display is a calculated visualization, not a prediction about events or an observational forecast.

How do I find planetary positions for a date?

Open ClockAstronomical and enter or choose the date and time in the date field. The field is interpreted as UTC rather than your local time zone, and a manual change pauses the simulation so the chosen instant stays fixed. Read the wheel for the visual arrangement or open the Planet Degree Table for signs, degrees, longitudes, and retrograde status.

How do I see planetary positions over time?

Use Play to resume the remembered direction and speed, select Forward or Rewind to choose a direction, or set a preset or custom speed. The wheel recalculates successive snapshots as simulated time changes. For careful comparisons, pause at each moment and use the degree table. ClockAstronomical visualizes motion but does not currently calculate exact ingress or station times.

How can I find Jupiter and Saturn on a birthday or birth date?

Enter the birthday or birth date with a chosen UTC time, then read the Jupiter and Saturn rows in the Planet Degree Table. If you know a local birth time, convert it to the matching UTC instant first. ClockAstronomical does not use a birthplace and does not calculate houses, an ascendant, aspects, a natal chart, or an interpretation; it only shows the selected planetary snapshot.

How can I find Jupiter's zodiac sign for a past or future date?

Set the UTC date and time, open the Planet Degree Table, and find Jupiter. Its Sign and Degree fields give the tropical zodiac placement for that instant. Use the exact time when it matters: near a sign boundary, changing the time can change the displayed sign. Dates outside 1900–2100 should be treated as extended, approximate results.

How do I find a planet's zodiac sign and degree?

Open the Planet Degree Table and locate the body. Sign names one of twelve equal 30° tropical-zodiac divisions, while Degree measures from 0° up to, but not including, 30° within that sign. The same placement also appears on the wheel. ClockAstronomical displays two decimals for readability; that formatting should not be interpreted as 0.01° measurement accuracy.

How do I find planetary longitude?

Choose an instant and open the Planet Degree Table. Longitude is the 0–360° value shown for each body. In ClockAstronomical it is apparent geocentric tropical ecliptic longitude of date, normalized so 0° is the start of Aries and values increase through the zodiac. Longitude alone is not a complete three-dimensional location because it omits ecliptic latitude and distance.

How do I convert longitude to a zodiac sign?

Divide the 360° circle into twelve 30° sections beginning with Aries at 0°. Longitudes from 0° to under 30° are Aries, 30° to under 60° are Taurus, and so on. Subtract the sign's starting longitude to get the degree within that sign. For example, 128.4° becomes 8.4° Leo because Leo begins at 120°.

How do I read planetary positions?

Read each row as body, zodiac sign, degree within the sign, full 0–360° longitude, and motion status. R means retrograde and a dash means direct. The wheel shows the same longitude graphically, with Aries at 12 o'clock and longitude increasing clockwise. These values describe a coordinate placement; ClockAstronomical does not attach predictions or interpretations to it.

How do I read an astrology ephemeris?

An ephemeris organizes positions by time. Start with the date and time convention, then identify the coordinate system, body, sign or longitude, and any direct or retrograde notation. ClockAstronomical provides one calculated snapshot at a time and can animate successive snapshots; it is not a certified tabular ephemeris. Compare tools only at the same UTC instant and with compatible coordinate settings, viewpoint, reference frame, and apparent or geometric corrections.

How do I see planets moving through the zodiac?

Select Now or another UTC instant, choose Forward or Rewind and a preset or custom integer speed, then resume playback. Watch how each marker's angle changes while its plotted longitude remains fixed to that angle; use the body filters to reduce visual clutter. Pause whenever you want to inspect a frozen displayed snapshot in the Planet Degree Table.

How do planets move through zodiac signs?

In this geocentric tropical view, most direct motion appears as increasing longitude through successive 30° signs. At some times a planet can appear to slow, reverse into decreasing longitude, and later resume direct motion because Earth and the body are moving relative to each other. The zodiac wheel visualizes that angular change; it is not a scale model of physical orbits.

How long does each planet stay in a zodiac sign?

There is no single fixed duration: apparent speed varies by body and date, and retrograde motion can cross a sign boundary more than once. ClockAstronomical lets you explore the change visually, but it does not yet return exact sign-entry or sign-exit times. Use a validated professional ephemeris when precise ingress timing is required.

Which planets were retrograde in the past?

Enter the past UTC date and time, then open the Planet Degree Table. Rows marked R are classified as retrograde at that displayed instant. For Mercury through Pluto, ClockAstronomical compares longitude half a day before and half a day after the instant; the Sun and Moon never receive an R. The tool does not solve the exact moment when a station began or ended.

How can I check whether Mercury was retrograde on a past date?

Set the UTC instant, open the Planet Degree Table, and inspect Mercury's motion column. R means ClockAstronomical found decreasing geocentric tropical longitude across its one-day comparison window; a dash means direct. Near a station, confirm critical timing with a source that calculates exact station times rather than inferring them from this status display.

Was Venus retrograde when I was born?

Enter your birth instant converted to UTC and check the Venus row for R or a dash. Without a known birth time, the answer may be uncertain if Venus was near a station that day. This lookup reports apparent longitude motion only; it does not create or interpret a natal chart.

Was Mars retrograde on my birthday?

Enter the birthday and a UTC time, then read the Mars row in the Planet Degree Table. Use the actual historical year, not only the month and day, because retrograde status changes from year to year. The result is a snapshot for the chosen instant and not an astrological interpretation.

Is this chart tropical or sidereal?

ClockAstronomical currently displays tropical positions only. It does not have a sidereal mode or an ayanamsa selector. If you compare its values with a sidereal tool, first confirm that both tools use the same instant and coordinate viewpoint, then expect the zodiac longitudes to differ because the two systems use different zero-point references.

What is a tropical planetary position?

A tropical position measures zodiac longitude from the equinox-based start of Aries for the selected date. ClockAstronomical divides that 360° tropical circle into twelve equal 30° signs and reports the sign and degree for each displayed body. This is a coordinate convention; it is not the body's location inside an IAU constellation.

What is geocentric planetary longitude?

Geocentric planetary longitude is the body's angular position along the ecliptic as viewed from Earth's center. ClockAstronomical reports apparent tropical longitude of date from 0° to less than 360°. It does not report a topocentric position for your location, altitude above the horizon, ecliptic latitude, distance, or whether the body is visible.

What is the difference between a sky map and a zodiac wheel?

A local sky map normally uses an observer's place and time to show directions, the horizon, altitude, and visibility. ClockAstronomical's zodiac wheel uses no observer location: it plots one-dimensional geocentric tropical longitudes around twelve equal signs. It is useful for comparing positions along the zodiac, but it cannot tell you where to look in your local sky.

Why do tropical and sidereal planetary positions differ?

They measure longitude from different reference origins. The tropical zodiac is tied to the equinox, while a sidereal zodiac applies a chosen stellar reference convention and offset, often called an ayanamsa. Precession makes the separation change over long periods, and different sidereal conventions can also disagree with one another. ClockAstronomical currently calculates only tropical positions.

Which dates does ClockAstronomical support?

ClockAstronomical accepts instants from 1 January AD 1000 at 00:00:00.000 UTC through 31 December AD 3000 at 23:59:59.999 UTC, inclusive. It uses the proleptic Gregorian calendar, so dates before the Gregorian calendar's historical adoption apply modern Gregorian rules backward. Historical dates recorded under another calendar may need conversion.

How accurate are ClockAstronomical's planetary positions?

ClockAstronomical maintains a 0.1° accuracy target from 1900 through 2100. That target is not a warranty or certification. Dates before 1900 and after 2100 are labelled Extended / approximate and have no blanket one-degree promise. The two decimal places in the degree table are display formatting, and small differences can change a sign or motion label near a boundary.

How was the extended date range checked against JPL Horizons?

The shipped calculation pipeline was compared with NASA/JPL Horizons DE441 geocentric ecliptic-of-date longitude. A terrestrial-time-matched grid sampled every 90 days from AD 1000 through the start of AD 3101, with 8,527 samples per displayed body; its largest difference was 0.0610°. Separate same-label checks exposed larger future time-scale effects, so the evidence supports approximate access rather than a continuous error guarantee.

Why can ClockAstronomical disagree with another planetary calculator?

First match the complete instant and time scale, Earth-centred versus surface-observer viewpoint, tropical versus sidereal zodiac, ecliptic and equinox epoch, target centre, and apparent versus geometric corrections. A mismatch in any one setting can change the result. For far-future dates, different assumptions about civil time, Earth rotation, and Delta T can create an additional difference.

Does ClockAstronomical collect personal data or use cookies?

ClockAstronomical has no accounts, application database, or advertising tag. Calculations run in your browser, and the theme is saved in local storage. The site uses Google Analytics, which may set first-party Analytics cookies and receive page, session, approximate-location, browser, and device information. Share links contain chart state, but ClockAstronomical removes query strings and fragments from the page-location and referrer URLs supplied to Analytics.
