Privacy Policy
A small, transparent data footprint
ClockAstronomical is a static, browser-based visualization. It has no user accounts, application backend, chart database, or advertising tag. It uses Google Analytics to measure visits and site usage. This policy describes the information involved when you load the site, save a theme, share a chart URL, use the tool, or follow an external link. ClockAstronomical has no public mailbox, contact form, or other public contact channel.
1. Privacy summary
- Chart inputs and astronomical calculations run on your device.
- ClockAstronomical does not require an account or store charts in an application database.
- The app stores only your theme choice in browser local storage.
- Share links contain the selected timestamp, renderer, and zodiac mode.
- Google Analytics measures visits and usage and may set first-party Analytics cookies.
- The current site does not use advertising technology or build advertising profiles.
- Cloudflare Pages, Cloudflare, and Google Fonts receive ordinary web requests needed to deliver the site and fonts.
- ClockAstronomical has no public contact channel and does not collect enquiry messages.
2. Information involved and why
| Activity | Information involved | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Loading the site | IP address, requested page and query string, time, browser or device headers, and referring page where supplied | Deliver pages and assets, maintain security and availability, diagnose errors, and prevent abuse |
| Choosing a theme | A value such as light or dark, stored under clockastronomical:theme in your browser | Remember your display preference on that browser |
| Sharing a chart | The selected timestamp, renderer, and zodiac mode encoded as t, r, and z URL parameters | Restore the same chart state for you or a recipient |
| Using the site with Google Analytics | Page path without query parameters and the page title, referring page without query parameters, interaction and session data, approximate location, browser and device information, and a client identifier stored in the first-party _ga cookie | Measure visits, understand how pages and features are used, diagnose broad usage patterns, and improve the site |
| Loading typefaces | IP address, requested font resource, user-agent details, and referrer information sent to Google Fonts | Deliver the site’s EB Garamond and Inter typefaces |
ClockAstronomical uses this information only for the purposes described above, to protect the service, comply with applicable law, and establish or defend legal claims where necessary. It does not sell personal information or use site activity to build advertising profiles.
3. Browser storage, calculations, and share URLs
Calculations stay in the application
The selected time and the calculated planetary positions are processed by JavaScript in your browser. ClockAstronomical does not send those inputs or calculation results to an application API or save them in an account.
Theme preference
When you change the theme, ClockAstronomical writes the preference to your browser’s local storage. It remains there until you change it, clear the site’s stored data, use a private-browsing session that discards it, or your browser removes it. Local storage is not an application cookie and is not transmitted automatically with web requests.
Share links
Selecting Copy share link updates the current URL and asks the browser to write that URL to your clipboard. ClockAstronomical does not read your clipboard. The URL can reveal a date and time you selected, which could be personal to you—for example, a birthday—even though it does not include a name or account identifier by itself.
Anyone who receives the link can see its parameters. The link may also be processed or logged by the browser, the recipient, the messaging or social service used to share it, and Cloudflare when the page is requested. Do not share a timestamp you consider sensitive.
Cookies
ClockAstronomical does not use an application cookie for accounts or saved
charts. Google Analytics may set first-party cookies, including
_ga, to distinguish browsers and sessions. The site does
not load advertising scripts. Google states that the Google Fonts Web
API does not set or log cookies. You can block or clear cookies using
your browser controls, although doing so may change Analytics reporting.
4. Google Analytics, hosting, fonts, and external services
Google Analytics
ClockAstronomical loads the Google tag for Google Analytics measurement ID
G-Z583VZ8XBR. On the canonical production host, it sends a
page-view event and can collect user and session counts, approximate
geolocation, browser and device information, page path and title,
referring page, and interaction events. Provider, preview, and local
hostnames do not configure Analytics. Google states that Analytics
stores a client ID in the first-party _ga cookie. See Google’s Analytics data-collection description.
A chart’s selected timestamp and display modes can appear in the page
URL as query parameters. Before configuring Analytics on a page,
ClockAstronomical removes the query string and fragment from the page
location and referring URL supplied to the Google tag. This prevents
the chart’s t, r, and z values
from being included in those Analytics URL fields. The full URL can
still be processed by the browser, Cloudflare, and any service through
which it is shared. Google processes Analytics data under its own terms
and privacy practices.
Cloudflare Pages hosting and Cloudflare delivery
ClockAstronomical is hosted as a static site on Cloudflare Pages and delivered through Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare receives ordinary request information needed to return pages and assets, including the IP address, requested URL and query string, time, and browser or device headers. Cloudflare may process and retain security, access, and error information under the site’s Cloudflare configuration and Cloudflare’s applicable terms and policies. ClockAstronomical does not copy those requests into a separate application database.
Google Fonts
ClockAstronomical currently requests font stylesheets and files from
fonts.googleapis.com and related Google font-delivery
domains. Google says these requests include the visitor’s IP address,
requested URL, user-agent, and referrer headers; it also says Google
Fonts data is not used to create end-user profiles or for targeted
advertising. See Google’s Google Fonts privacy FAQ for its current
description.
External links
Articles and support pages may link to external websites. Following a link sends a request to that service, which applies its own privacy policy. ClockAstronomical does not control the independent practices of those providers.
5. Retention and your choices
- Theme: remains in your browser until changed or cleared.
- Chart state: remains in the URL, browser history, clipboard, or services through which you share it until removed under the controls of those systems.
- Google Analytics: Analytics cookies remain until they expire or are cleared, and collected data is retained under the Google Analytics property settings and Google’s applicable policies.
- Cloudflare and font requests: are retained, if at all, according to the relevant provider’s settings, security needs, and legal obligations.
You can clear ClockAstronomical’s local storage in your browser settings, avoid copying or sharing state URLs, remove URL parameters before sharing, clear or block Analytics cookies, use private browsing, or configure your browser or network to block Analytics and third-party font requests. Blocking Analytics does not stop the core calculation. Blocking fonts causes the browser to use fallback typefaces.
6. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask about, access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information, and to complain to an appropriate data-protection authority. These rights can have exceptions under applicable law.
ClockAstronomical cannot identify or remotely delete a theme value or unshared chart state that exists only in your browser; you control that data with your browser’s storage and history tools. ClockAstronomical has no public contact channel through which to submit a request. Information processed independently by Google or Cloudflare is subject to those providers’ controls and applicable policies.
7. Security and children
ClockAstronomical reduces risk by avoiding accounts and an application database, but no website, browser, network, or storage method is guaranteed to be completely secure. Protect share links as you would any other URL containing information you selected.
ClockAstronomical is a general-audience educational tool and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly request a child’s personal details or account registration.
8. Changes to this policy
This policy will be revised when ClockAstronomical’s data practices or service providers materially change. The effective date at the top identifies the published version. New advertising, account, form, newsletter, embed, or similar data collection will not be treated as covered by vague future language; the policy and any required choices will be updated before that feature is enabled.
